Yamaha ventures into Pakistan

Yamaha Motor President, Takashi Kajikawa made the announcement that the company will be setting up a motorcycle manufacturing facility in Pakistan, to be located at the National Industrial Park in Bin Qasim, near Karachi.

The plant is expected to be up and running by mid-2011. The company plans to assemble at least 22,000 units at its new plant by 2012, following which it will start using locally sourced components to start manufacturing bikes in that country. Mr Kajikawa has also stated that the company intends to make Pakistan a base for exports to neighboring Asian and African countries in the coming future. Come 2017, Yamaha will also start production of motorcycle engines in the country.

In India too, Yamaha is growing by leaps and bounds at an unprecedented rate. The company posted staggering growth of 160 percent in sales in September 2009 as compared to the last year. It sold 26394 units in September 2009 as against 10142 units in the same month last year with the newly launched Fazer contributing a significant part of it.

Yamaha Delays Fazer 250 Launch

Yamaha had earlier disclosed its plans of launching two new bikes during the festive season, one of which would beat the Bajaj Pulsar 220 to take the crown of the fastest Indian motorcycle has postponed the launch of the Fazer 250. With alot of bikes expected to be launched in the 250cc segment, Yamaha doesn’t want to the be the first to enter.

“We are not thinking of launching a bike in that (225-250 cc) range this festival season,” Yukimine Tsuji, MD and CEO, Yamaha India said. “We will launch a bike that would not only be the fastest in India, but it would be the fastest in the world,” Sanjay Tripathi, division head of product planning and brand management of Yamaha India said.

Yamaha R15 Club In Delhi

In a bid to promote the biking culture among the city’s youngsters and sports enthusiasts, as well as to spread awareness among the masses of various issues of national importance, a group of biking enthusiasts – especially the fans of Yamaha superior technology machine YZF-R15 – have formed Delhi R15 Club, similar to the biking clubs formed overseas.

The club formed some time back in September 2008, currently has a strength of 35 members, many of whom are working and are also highly-qualified such as being doctors, engineers and chartered accountants.

Earlier the club had strength of 60 members, but their number was later reduced to 35 just to ensure that not any one but only the real bikers with some mission in life could be part of the club. Also, they need to be serious in life about what they are doing.

The club is running with the mutual understanding of all the members, who are between the age group of 18 and 30 years. On weekends, the club members hold general meetings in Delhi and from time to time keep on touring to nearby places such as Shimla, Dehradun, Mussoorie and Jaipur.

The future plans of club members are firstly to register this club, and later to expand this club with superbikes. They also plan to start training sessions to make the people real bikers, as well as educate the masses about things like AIDS and their own voting rights.

Yamaha may launch T-Max 750 in 2010

According to a report on Motociclismo, Yamaha are working on brand-new three-cylinder, 750cc engine and the first recipient of this new engine may be a 750cc version of the T-Max 500 scooter.

A mad, pumped-up super-scooter sounds good to us. While they’re at it, we hope Yamaha equip the new 750cc inline-triple with some R1-style electro-trickery. Sticky rubber, fully adjustable Ohlins fork and shock and ABS should then complete the package.
